A Dive into Sandy Liang’s SS 2024 Collection

A Sandy Liang show is known for its distinct look: whimsical, feminine, romantic, and of

course, adorned with bows. The New York Based Designer, Sandy Liang is beloved among

many, for her modernization of traditional feminine fashion and embrace of “unapologetic

girlhood.”

For her Spring 2024 Collection, Liang's inspiration from girlhood remained applicable. The

collection was influenced by the character Cecilia Lisbon in Sofia Coppola’s 1999 The Virgin

Suicides, who wears a vintage lace dress, described as “ill-fitting”, paired with dad sandals.

In Liang’s collection, many models wore Teva wedge sandals when not wearing Liang’s

signature pointe shoe ballet flats.

The collection’s color palette was primarily navy, cream, ice pink, pale yellows, and reds. Her

collection also incorporated “unintentional” matching after observing groups of women who

matched their outfits. Pleaded skirts, peter pan collars, sheer fabrics, rose motifs, and

oversized bows were prominent throughout the collection. Here, however, Liang’s signature

bows are reintroduced as belts and bags. Playful nature themes, particularly oceanic

concepts, were scattered throughout the collection.

The collection closed with a bride model wearing a peter pan collard drop waist pleaded skirt

and oversized bow. The look was complete with a dramatic veil: embodying the ideal Sandy

Liang girl.

Sandy Liang’s Spring/Summer collection embraces the essence of femininity, honing in on

nostalgia and individuality. It’s refreshing to witness a runway show feel playful and

detached from reality. Through storytelling and purposeful accessorizing, this line evokes a

sense of longing for the experiences of girlhood.
