The Sex and the City series ended in 2004, but the fashion looks of Carrie Bradshaw and her clique
continue to live on in contemporary culture. Whether it was Carrie’s newest Manolo Blahniks,
Charlotte’s Elizabeth-Taylor-inspired looks, or Samantha’s yellow Mugler suit, these New York City
women have become everyone’s favorite fashion inspiration.
Carrie Bradshaw isn’t just a TV Character, but an archetype that resonates with many women.
With her blend of vulnerability and independence, Carrie embodies a woman who navigates the
complexities of her love, friendship, and career, all while doing so in style. Carrie’s fearless
approach to life is reflected in her fashion, redefining the fashion landscape, and empowering
women to embrace individuality. Dior, Fendi, Prada, Gucci, Vivienne Westwood: Carrie’s closet had
just about every designer brand a girl could dream of.
Let's take a look at some of Sex and the City’s most iconic looks.
One of Carrie’s most unforgettable outfits is her Dior newspaper dress by John Galliano, worn in
season three. The “Christian Dior Daily” print was inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli’s newspaper print
design from 1935. Styled by Designer Patricia Field, Carrie wears this newspaper dress r with a
Fendi baguette, a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels (of course), and her signature namesake necklace.
Fields understands that fashion is more than just clothes; it often embodies deeper significance. In
this scene, Carrie’s scandalous behavior is reflected by her newspaper dress.
Charlotte York, everyone’s favorite preppy Park Avenue princess, gave us plenty of memorable
looks to adore. From Ralph Lauren to Chanel, Charlotte is always chaneling elegance and timeless
style. Charlotte loved a sophisticated all-white look, one of the best being a white halter top paired
with a white midi skirt: simple, clean, and elegant.
Miranda Hobbes lean more into “quiet luxury” than the rest of her friends, but her looks still
deserve recognition. Rather than wearing flashy items, Miranda is typically seen wearing timeless
pieces and classic silhouettes. Miranda’s style evolution throughout the series reflects her growing
confidence as she embraces her individuality. One of my favorite fashion moments of Miranda is
her skinny jean look in Season six. While a pair of jeans may sound underwhelming, Miranda’s
confidence while wearing the pair of denim shows you that confidence is the most stylish thing
anyone can wear.
In one of Samantha Jones’ most memorable looks, she’s wearing a vibrant yellow Mugler suit paird
with silver Dior peep-toe heels and a Herve Leger pencil skirt. This outfit capture’s Samanthas
powerful attitude, serving as a representation of her unapologetic confidence. This sleek
silhouette and neon color of the Mugler suit elude Samantha’s fierce demeanor.
Sex and the City celebrates four women who are completely unique in their own ways, but learn
how to embrace their individuality. Throughout the series, each of these women’s styles evolved
with their personal growth and life experiences. To this day, Sex and The City inspires women to
be their truest selves and always have fun with fashion.
