Fall Trend Alert: Bloke Core

I hopped on Seattle’s equivalent of Philadelphia's SEPTA– the ORCA. While riding the train, I scanned my surroundings and glanced over at the other passengers. The style and aesthetic of Seattle are much different than what I’ve seen in Philadelphia. I’ve never noticed so many pairs of Dr. Martens, and the color palette appeared dark, with minimalistic monochromatic all-black looks. However, what caught my eye is the number of soccer jerseys I saw.

Not only did I see Seattle Sounders Major League Soccer (MLS) jerseys, but ones from other MLS teams and countries. The particularly trendy Seattle cool girls wore their jerseys with cut-off jean shorts and accessorized with low-rise athletic sneakers and slick-back buns.

Welcome to one of Fall 2022’s biggest trends–Bloke Core.

A “Bloke” is defined as a common basic man and is aesthetically similar to the concept of men’s fraternity fashion in the United States. However, instead of snap-backs and Vineyard Vines, the bloke aesthetic revolves around soccer jerseys, trainers, Adidas, and relaxed denim.

The trend established its roots on Tik-Tok, and was coined by Tik-Tok’s top male fashion creators, Bradon Huntley and Dani Bueno Moreno.

Huntley and Moreno styled their jerseys with Adidas Sambas, a flat, low-rise trainer. Huntley opted for denim cut-off shorts, while Morena styled his jersey with cargo pants.

Yet, bloke-core has now crept into women's fall fashion for 2022.

Influencers like Ruby Lynn, have been putting their own feminine twist on the trend, instead of bootcut jeans, Lynn opted for a maxi denim

skirt, another hot piece for Fall 2022. Lynn has been posting outfits sporting oversized vintage Adidas track jackets and pants while pairing them with crop tops or mini skirts.

Trends like bloke-core steam from the 90s/Y2K trend that has been taking over for the past few years. But what makes the bloke-core aesthetic so popular, is the accessibility and easiness of replicating the look.

To participate in the bloke-core trend this fall consider thrifting jerseys, or opt to spend on a women’s soccer jersey to support the women’s teams. Basic trainers and worn boot-cut jeans can also be purchased at a local thrift store too.

An Americana twist on this trend could be baseball jerseys instead of international football teams, or American soccer jerseys, complete with Nike Cortez’s instead of an Adidas trainer.

Incorporating aspects of trends into a wardrobe versus adopting a trend cycle fully isn’t just helping your wallet, but the environment too. Although trend cycles still exist, it’s important to be conscious of overconsumption as trend cycles progress.

This fall, invest in a women's soccer team by purchasing a jersey, or stop by your local Goodwill for all your bloke-core aesthetic needs.
