Fashion Icon: Kate Moss

Kate Moss is known for her intriguing edgy look and cool personality. She was a 90s

fashion icon and could rock versatile styles with ease. She exhibited mainly a rock and bohemian

vibe, in tune with the 90s, but also displayed elements of classical and traditional fashion styles

seen in previous decades. Let’s take a look at some of her most iconic and timeless photoshoots.

One of the most beautiful editorials she did was for Vogue Italia in 1992 called “Sissi

Allure”. She is featured wearing traditional European royalty inspired looks. One of the

standouts in the shoot is a photograph of her rowing on a canoe in a blue ball gown with a

textured overlay top and light blue lace stockings. Her hair is braided with a black ribbon laced

through, and she is accessorized with statement jewelry pieces that help glamorize the look.

Another photograph shows her with the same black lace weaved through her hair, with the

addition of a large sunflower perched on the top of her updo. The slicked back hair along with

the flower and sleek trench coat mixed the traditional styles with her free-spirited bohemian

attitude. This was a stunning shoot with so much character that really highlighted the elegance of

Moss.

We can’t talk about Kate Moss without looking at some of her classic rock/hippie

inspired outfits. Kate Moss was featured in Harper’s Bazaar September issue “Wild” in 1992. In

one of the first photos she is seen wearing a ruffled lace red blouse with flared sleeves, along

with velvet purple bell bottoms. She is wearing a matching purple choker with a large black

beaded pendant and a belt that has a fabric handkerchief hanging from it, embedded with

designs. The caption of the photo describes this look as “funky, feminine, faithful: the sweet

sister in velvet and lace.” This look parallels styles worn by rock singers such as Stevie Nicks in

the 70s. Another outfit from this shoot shows Moss wearing a paperboy hat along with a

patchwork collared top with shoulder pads and suede blue gloves. The items in this look give a

fun and funky spin to a classic structured look. Moss has the ability to wear very out-there and

busy items without being buried within them, which is what makes her unique.

Kate Moss and Marcus Schenkenberg were photographed in New York, New York 1992.

Kate is wearing a light green matching set with black fishnet stocking and black platform heels.

She is again wearing a choker, which seems to be one of her staples in most of these looks. Her

hair is slicked but curled at the bottoms. She is walking alongside her equally stylish counterpart,

Schenkenberg, as the two stroll through the city. The look is simple and stylish, highlighting her

ability to elevate any look she wears. In the second photo, Moss ditched the matching set for a

pantsuit that features a deep heart neckline. The chic outfit has the feel of casual business wear

mixed with New York street style.
