Finding Comfort in Gym Fits

Finding the time in our schedules, planning workout routines, and making the trip to the gym can feel tasking at times. For many of us, the lack of motivation is real when it comes to getting ourselves into the gym. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we can’t make it fun and enticing. Going to the gym doesn’t need to be a drag! The best way to trick yourself into enjoying your workout is treating it as a girls’ night out. If you’re going out--what’s the first thing you do? Pick out your outfit!

Depending on the type of workout, you can cater your outfit to what feels best for you and is most appropriate for your workout for the day. Having a variety of shoes, leggings, sports bras, sweatpants, and tank tops allows you to customize each and every workout. It’s important to have this variety because every fitness activity requires a different level of comfort, security, and support. Check out our guide on what to wear for different workouts!

Yoga: The purpose of yoga is to bring harmony by joining the mind and body. Allowing yourself room to breathe and stretch is essential in a meditative exercise like yoga. For yoga, workout attire can consist of breathable materials and baggier fits. In terms of bottoms, jersey knit or recycled polyester joggers can provide that loose, airy feeling. Some great options are the Athleta Venture Pant or Old Navy’s Breathe ON Jogger Pant. As for tops, stick with a sports bra or a workout tunic. For example, Beyond Yoga’s Open Back Sports Bra and the Lululemon All Yours Tees are snug, but comfortable. Again, this promotes breathability and flexibility during your yoga exercise.

Cardio: On the other hand, cardio requires a more secure fit, along with sweat absorbing fabric. You

need something that will hold everything in place while you’re on the treadmill, elevator stairs, or elliptical machine. In this case, you’d want to go for leggings and a fitted workout top. Fabletics and GymShark are both great options for this because they offer many variations of leggings and tops that provide the security and sweat proof needed for cardio.

Weight Training: Last but not least, weight training requires flexibility and mobility. You don’t want to get stuck wearing something heavy—like a full sweat set. Instead, choose one or the other: sweatshirt or sweatpants. This will allow you to heat up but also not weigh you down during lifting. It is also important to wear flat shoes like Converse or Vans so that you are able to push through the floor easier. Ultimately, this attire will allow for more force during your lift.
