I’m sure many of you know of the iconic and incredibly talented music artist, Frank Ocean. Labeled as one of the most talented songwriters of his time, Ocean has shown his skill by earning a gold album, Channel Orange, and went one step higher with his album Blonde, which was certified platinum. Not to mention, he has received multiple nominations and awards for his music, as well as wining two Grammys, a UK music award, and more. It’s clear to see Frank Ocean has made quite the name for himself with his musical abilities, but he decided to go outside the box of just being a musician. He’s now gotten himself into fashion, with the creation of his own luxury brand, Homer.
Homer, a “independent American luxury company,” was founded by Frank Ocean and was revealed to the public August 2021. Homer is a fashion company that consists of italian-made jewelry and silk scarves. The diamonds are grown in Homer’s very own domestic laboratory, which is quite interesting and bizarre to know they have their own diamond growing lab. The jewelry is designed in New York, where Homer is also located, and then hand-crafted in Italy. Frank states that this whole process and creation of his own high end fashion company began 3 years prior, using inspiration from some of his “childhood obsessions” and naming it something that he describes as “carving history into stone.” Ocean stated to the Financial Times, “Homer is considered the father of history and history is meant to endure – the same as diamonds and gold…”
The jewelry Homer creates consists of things such as: chains, earrings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, and rings. The designs range from basic, traditional gold and silver bands, to intricate designs and shapes filled with vibrant colors. Now considering this is a luxury brand, these pieces are expectedly on the pricey side.
One of my favorite pieces being the “Plus Doll Pendant,” (pictured to the right), is a whopping $890. This piece is a perfect example to see how Homer connects to Frank’s inspiration from his childhood. His silk scarves, ranging from $230-$460, are also colorful and fun, and they all showcase his signature “plus sign” design (pictured to the left). His most expensive item to date would be the “sphere legs high jewelry necklace,” which runs for $1.9 million and is made from “bright frost of brilliant pave-set diamonds sheathes and rhodium-plated 18-karat white gold.” Overall, his pieces may have quite the price tag, but are definitely something on my bucket list to purchase!
Homer has had quite the success, not only due to the fact its founder is Frank Ocean, but with an impressive collaboration with none other than Prada. Their collection is so far quite small, consisting of an Italian-made anorak, backpack, and belt bag. They made this collaboration subtle, but elegant, only showing any co-branding on the inside of the pieces. While it is nothing too crazy, there has been word of more Homer X Prada collabs to come!
While it’s not clear if Homer will decide to expand its collections to anything more than jewelry and scarves, it sure is something exciting to look out for.
Keep up with all things Homer on their website and instagram page!
