After 3 years, Daniel Lee has abruptly decided to step down from Bottega Veneta as creative director. As of now, Bottega Veneta has not given a reason why he surprisingly decided to leave so suddenly. Lee has given a fresh and modern perspective to the label and has revived the Italian luxury fashion house. His past designs as creative director have created iconic fashion pieces that will resonate within the fashion industry.
Kering has recently announced that Matthieu Blazy will take the position of creative director for Bottega Veneta. So who is Matthieu Blazy? The 37-year old Belgian comes with an impressive CV and has a lot of talent and experience within the fashion industry. He graduated from La Cambre in Brussels and then began his fashion career designing menswear for Raf Simons. Afterward, he worked for Maison Martin Margiela as head designer in the early 2010s to design the “Artisanal’ line and the women’s ready-to-wear. In 2014, he was senior designer for Céline where he worked with Daniel Lee and Phoebe Philo. In 2016-2019 he returned to work with Raf Simons at Calvin Klein. Since 2020 he has been working for Bottega Veneta.

He has some big shoes to fill and people are wondering if he will be able to live up to Daniel Lee’s fashion legacy. The CEO at Bottega Veneta is very confident in their choice and believes that Blazy will succeed greatly as their new creative director. "Matthieu Blazy is an extraordinarily talented individual, whom I am proud and excited to entrust with the creative helm of our luxury House,” says Leo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta. At the Milan Fashion Week in February 2022, Blazy’s first collection for the label will be shown and put to the test. The fashion industry and the public will judge if he was the right choice. It will be exciting to see what kind of collection he will create for the brand and see his talent be up for a challenge.
