Nyla Monastero, a senior advertising student at Temple University's Klein College of
Media and Communication, is making waves both on and off campus. With leadership roles in
the Temple Advertising Club, Beauty Birds Club, and Temple Fashion & Business Club, Nyla is
a shining star of passion and dedication in action. In my experience of knowing Nyla, you
couldn’t meet a more dedicated and talented person.
Reflecting on her journey, Nyla shared, "I’m a senior advertising major with concentrations in
account management and brand strategy & research. I love to pull inspiration from runway
shows, TV shows, movies, and renowned events that celebrities have attended in the past." She
also enjoys reimagining (stunning) makeup looks, shopping, styling, DIY activities, trying new
restaurants, and discovering new music.
Nyla's love for fashion blossomed in college, particularly inspired by the TV show Euphoria. She
recalls, "What got me started was Euphoria. That’s when the second season was about to come
out, so I binge watched the first one and realized how similar my style was to Maddie’s
character." In this I’m not surprised, as Nyla’s confident fashion style matches Maddie’s
commanding style within the show.
In her leadership roles, Nyla has learned valuable lessons and done a terrific job as well!
As President of the Temple Advertising Club, she noted, "Being the President of the Temple
Advertising Club has taught me to not be afraid to speak my mind and show others what I’m
capable of by testing out new ideas." Her role as Secretary of the Temple Fashion & Business
Club has honed her copywriting skills, which she finds useful for writing appealing descriptions.
Nyla's passion for fashion recently led her to an exciting opportunity at NYFW, working with
designer Sergio Hudson for his fall/winter 2024 show. She recalled, "I received this opportunity
by cold emailing the PR firm I worked with during the NYFW Spring 2024 Season." Her
experience involved various tasks, from setting up the runway to creating content for the event.
Nyla described it as "the best experience I had yet with NYFW!" To this I say, cold emailing has
never looked so good.
For students interested in fashion, Nyla advises, "DO NOT BE AFRAID TO PUT YOURSELF
OUT THERE! Opportunities usually won’t fall into your lap, so you must be willing to work to
get what you want." She also emphasizes the importance of networking and confidence, noting
that "having confidence will pave the way for you to reach the top of the chain."
Looking ahead, Nyla's goal is to become a creative director for a renowned fashion company.
Her experiences at NYFW and beyond have solidified her passion for the industry and her
determination to succeed. With her drive and talent, Nyla Monastero is undoubtedly a rising star
in the world of fashion. I have no doubt we will all celebrate her success as she steps off Temple
campus and starts her fashion denomination of the advertising industry.
