Spring Formal Attire Under $100!

Updated: Apr 15, 2022

As April begins, we welcome in spring, and with spring comes a variety of formal events that are planned and scheduled. For example, graduation parties, formals and date parties, weddings and so much more.

One of the biggest struggles is finding a dress that looks great, but doesn’t break the budget. For many of us, stopping into Forever 21 or H&M seems like the best option, or expediting a dress from SheIn or Amazon. However, there are a variety of sustainable options to choose from instead, including tons of second hand designer pieces for under $100. Additionally, companies such as Rent The Runway allow consumers to rent designer pieces for under $100. There are tons of different options when it comes to purchasing a dress for a formal occasion that still allows you to feel beautiful, not break your budget, and be as sustainable as possible. Here’s a quick guide to some of my favorite pieces currently available for under $100!

For the… Dark & Moody

TheRealReal Sandro Crew Neck Mini dress– $90

This dress is perfect for the spring and summer with the beautiful lace cut out in the center of the dress, adding edginess to the rest of the piece. The lace detailing on the hem is beautiful and the color will for sure make a statement. The allover lace detailing elevates the dress from a basic ‘little black dress’, pairs with a red lip and chunky heel/ platform, like these Xandra platforms from Jefferey Campbell.

For the… Glam Effect

TheRealReal Ronny Kobo Mock Neck Mini Dress– $95

If you want to make a glamorous and maximal statement then this Ronny Kobo dress is for you! The mesmerizing sequins and short hem are sure to make you stand out from the crowd while looking as fabulous as possible. These Trixie multi colored and printed sandals from Steve Madden would only add to the maximal statement look.

For the… Graduate

Rent the Runway Ulla Johnson Estela Dress– 4 day rental $81-$96

For the graduate in need of a white dress, this Ulla Johnson dress you can rent from Rent the Runway is perfect. And the best part– you ship it back four days later after wear. No worrying about dry-cleaning, or having to wear it again. The soft bohemian style of the dress would go perfect with these Harbor Flatforms from Free People that come in a variety of colors.

For the… Formal Attire Haters

Rent the Runway S/W/F Zest Jumpsuit– 4 day rental $30-$40

Some of us–understandably– hate formal events, for those who just want to be comfortable at any social event you may be attending this spring and summer, this S/W/F jumpsuit in the color “Zest” is perfect for you. It’s a flowy jumpsuit so you can comfortably wear it in the heat, and the straight neckline isn’t too revealing or difficult to wear. The color and shoulder-tie detailing elevates the look without it being too much. Pair with these flat Newbie Rhinestone sandals from Steve Madden for ultimate comfort and style without the heel.

For the… Bohemian Thredup Free People Dress – $70.99

For my bohemian lovers, this vintage Free People dress is perfect for you. The stunning beading that covers the dress is so dreamy, paired with loose waves and these electric blue Jessica Simpson slides for a beautiful bohemian vibe. Want to elevate the look even further? Ditch heels for an unconventional cowboy boot, like these Dagget boots from Jefferey Campbell.

For the… Retro Lover

Another steal in price, this Thredup Free People dress is in perfect condition and it is under $50. The v-cut shift dress is perfect for any

retro-vintage lover, the shimmery floral/paisley pattern is reminiscent of the swingin-60s style and Studio 54. Pair with a slick hairstyle or an updo to make the dress the centerpiece. To compliment the dress, these Circus by Sam Eddleman Miranda Heels are perfect to match the style and era of the dress without distracting from the shimmer and pattern.

As you can see there are tons of different styles, looks and designers to buy second hand and rent without breaking the bank. Incorporating shoes, makeup and accessories that you already have on hand are perfect for remaining sustainable and saving money. Besides the fashion, most importantly, have fun and enjoy your eventful spring and summer!
