Steve Harvey and His Fashion Rebirth

Brandon Ekwunazu

Steve Harvey is a man we may all know very well. He is a television and radio presenter, being the host of The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Family Feud, Celebrity Family Feud, and the Miss Universe competition. He is also an author, actor, businessman, and a former stand-up comedian. He, however, wasn’t necessarily known for his fashion but recently has been, let’s say, rejuvenated. Not sure what has gotten into him, but the 64 year old celebrity has become a bit more daring. He had recently gotten himself a new stylist in Elly Karamoh, and they have worked together since 2019 to push him out of his comfort zone and expand his boundaries. His recent fits pics have seemingly sent the internet ablaze, with plenty of people either in love with what he’s wearing or people not really feeling it, and of course, spawning a bunch of memes. One of his best looks has been his dark blue suede Berluti jacket, coupled with black leather Bottega Veneta pants and Bottega Veneta boots. Nothing too splashy, but with just enough color that makes the outfit pop. He’s leaned heavily on his two favorite brands, Berluti and Bottega Veneta, as they have been staples in most of his recent outfits.

It’s nice to see Harvey break his routine and start dressing a little out of his comfort zone. He recently had an interview with GQ where he talked about how restrictive his outfit choices had to be for TV, commonly sticking with the run-of-the-mill suit and tie. It’s not bad. Pretty safe and traditional. Helps him reach a wide audience while maintaining professionalism, but Harvey noted that he found wearing the same suits with the same color palette and he wanted to switch it up. His motto is “fly until I die” and he has lived up to dressing in more colors and donning certain pieces that most would not expect him to wear. His recent style evolution is something to admire, as it reminds people that fashion is just about clothes and doesn’t have to be so simple and predictable. Fashion is something fluid, that invites creativity and can be something you can have fun with. He doesn’t go in an entirely different direction with his style, but instead just evolves and builds on what he knows. He’s broken away from the baggy suits in favor of slimmer, sleeker cuts, mainly outfitting in blacks and charcoal grays, with an electric pop of color every now and then. Harvey is proof that finding your sense of style doesn’t entail suddening changing your whole personality, but expanding your boundaries by building on what you are comfortable with.

I am anxiously awaiting to see what else “Mr. Put It On” himself has up his sleeve and how he plans on stunning the world next. Until then, here are some of my favorite looks so far:

An all black fit paired nicely with a Louis Vuitton bag.

Pre-fall 2021 Balmain and Yves Saint Laurent shirt, trousers, and boots.

Pairing the Bottega boots with a dark blue Bottega jacket.

Enjoying the day with his wife Marjorie in a cozy grey Louis Vuitton sweater.
