With a different decade old trend coming back into style every week, it’s about time the mini skirt had her moment. The Miu Miu Spring 2022 show at this year's Paris Fashion week did not take the term “low rise'' lightly. Almost every single garment’s waistline lies just above the pelvis, with some so short in order to show the pockets underneath. This collection, titled “Bare Instincts,” by Miuccia Prada takes style inspiration and earthy tones from business-wear, while cropping and distressing some pieces to add a modern twist. The designer wanted to emphasize “using the existing to create the new,” attempting to leave the “character” of the original pieces, but create a new “relationship with the body.” In the current Y2K resurgence, Miu Miu’s mini skirt is a refreshing change in this direction of style.
Miuccia Prada, who serves as the co-chief executive and co-creative director of the renowned fashion label Prada, launched Miu Miu in 1993, with the brand title coming from her childhood nickname.
The collection stayed very consistent throughout each garment. There was a variety of khaki pants, knit sweaters, collared shirts, and pleated skirts, all with a very reminiscent upper east side feeling. Beaded evening dresses beautifully contrasted the business wear looks, while still adding to the narrative of the collection. Even with these amazing pieces, the pleated mini skirt is undoubtedly the stand out of this collection. Paired with high socks and loafers, the distressed prep school looks of this show were an interesting take on this revitalization of the 2000’s.
