As the weather slowly gets cooler, fall fashion is making its return. This leaves us with the question…what trends will make it into the Fall 2022 season?
Luckily, Temple is very diverse when it comes to students dressing in different fashion styles. Simply from walking around campus and attending classes, I have noticed a certain item making its return, and that is denim maxi skirts.
These skirts gained popularity in the early 2000s when mini skirts were starting to go out of trend, this fad did not last long as mini skirts quickly made their return.
Although the popularity of denim maxi skirts was short-lived, wearing them with slits in the middle and embellishments was popular.
Now brands such as Urban Outfitters, ASOS, and Free People are selling denim maxi skirts. Most of the skirts have slits on the sides and are often styled with smaller shirts, such as baby tees and cropped tanks, along with bulky shoes. They are now being worn in streetwear chic style, but also in the indie boho style.
Although these skirts are versatile and fit many different aesthetics, this trend definitely brings along a lot of strong personal opinions. After talking to some friends about the return of this
trend I found some of them feel as though the
skirts are unflattering and an attempt at the y2k style which is slowly dying out.
Despite criticism, denim maxi skirts have made their way to New York City, Milan, and Paris.
As the weather gets cooler, it is expected to see these maxi skirts in a maximalist style, worn with jackets, loud tops, tights, and statement shoes.
If you would like to participate in the return of this trend, you can find denim maxi skirts in the stores I previously mentioned. However, if you would like to do so in a more sustainable and affordable manner, denim maxi skirts are almost always readily available in thrift stores, you just need to keep an eye out!
Just like every other trend, denim maxi skirts have made their way to Tik Tok where creators have been creating videos suggesting how to style them. I noticed this is predominantly done in the y2k aesthetic, so if that is a style you seek out, maybe it is time to go find yourself a denim maxi skirt.
Personally, I find fall fashion and the trends that come with it to be the most exciting time of the year. Although I probably will not be rocking denim maxi skirts, I am very interested to see the
different ways they will be styled, and if they make as big of a return as projected.
