Zuhair Murad was born in Lebanon, and by the time he was three years old, he was sketching dresses and clothing. His mother knew that he was going to make it far in life. By the time Murad was 15, he had made the decision to be a fashion designer.
His first ever commission was from his sister’s friend, who wanted a dress for her engagement photoshoot. She was enamored with the dress, and that gave Murad the push he needed to move to Paris to pursue a career in fashion.
Murad’s designs made their first appearance on the runway in 1999 in Rome, which gave him a place in the Italian almanac.
Since then Murad has styled many celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Blake Lively, and Shakira.
Murad has stores in both Beirut and Paris, which predominantly specializes in bridal gowns. After a quick look at the “bridal” section of Murad’s website, I have decided that it is my life goal to be able to wear a wedding dress by him. They are so stunning, and each one of his designs is their own individual work of art.
Back in Paris Couture Week in 2020, Murad revealed that he gets most of his fashion and design inspiration from Ancient Egyptian cultural heritage, as he loves both the traditional colors and shapes. It has been a theme for Murad to base his collections on cultures, as he has done so for both Native American and Russian cultures in the past.
Murad’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection has been released, and fans are obsessed over it. This collection contains bright shades of pink, orange, and green while also keeping some pieces simple and basic with a good old black and white. These pieces are meant to symbolize flow, while also complimenting the figure of those wearing them. Aside from the diverse range of colors, Murad also uses and combines many different fabrics to add diversity but unity at the same time to the collection.
Murad follows his common theme of basing his collections off of the world, but this time does so more with inspiration picked from landscapes. The colors represent all of the different elements, and the diversity in materials are meant to represent the ever changing climate.
Murad combined his love for traveling with his love for design, and escaped to Peru to gain inspiration for this collection.
I personally tend to not like many high fashion brands or designers, as I just usually find the clothing to be flat out ugly. I struggled to find a Murad piece that I did not love. There is so much diversity yet unison in his creations, and he has made some of the most stunning ball gowns that I have ever seen.
All of his red carpet looks and the way that he has styled celebrities have been nothing less than iconic, and I cannot wait to see the collections he releases in the future.
