NYFW Fall/Winter 2022: A Coach Comeback?

Molly Fiske

In 2021, Coach unveiled a new star-studded campaign, highlighting stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Micheal B. Jordan, Noah Beck, and Megan Thee Stallion. Clearly, Coach understands its branding and audience.

In 2013 Stuart Vevers was positioned as Coach’s main creative director and designer, and in the past four years, Vevers's hard work has paid off for the company, but not all good things last forever. Will Coach be able to keep up as trends change?

Looking at Vevers Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection, Coach is seemingly here to stay.

The collection taps into the “Twee” and “Tumblr-girl” revival, trend forecasters predict we will be seeing soon. The collection revisits “peter-pan” style collars that were once popular and pulls inspiration from late 60’s style silhouettes.

Models are seen in lacey, white baby-doll dresses, paired with quirky industrial-style jewelry and leather baseball hats.

Coach’s signature leatherwork is put on full display with the use of leather pants, vests, and shearling-lined jackets. Many of these leather pieces were upcycled and reworked.

Coach additionally taps into the popular styling trend of “maximalism”, this is seen through the bright coordinating sunglasses and baseball caps. As well as the reworked, graffiti-printed leather jackets debuted at the end of the show.

Overall, Coach’s collection wasn’t jaw dropping, or revolutionary, but will it be popular? Definitely. The collection is on-brand, on-trend, and very accessible. I have no doubt that many of Coach’s pieces will be styled throughout the upcoming fashion seasons.
