Let’s discuss the show that’s been sweeping the internet this past week and surpassing "Squid Game", season three of the Netflix original “You.”
We’ve seen TikToks and memes about Joe Goldberg, and almost scarily, a lot of people have taken a liking to the murderer. In a strange way, a lot of people have found themselves relating to Joe and his issues. Of course this doesn’t mean becoming a serial killer, but his adoration for each woman he falls for, and his past trauma of abandonment has made the show's audience feel bad for him and connect with him.
However, this season has definitely changed the audience's perspective. In the newest season, we see a focus on both Joe, and his very like minded wife, Love. This season, Love Quinn is seen as the new, controversial queen of the “You” universe. Joe has become the villain and Love, the victim. Many find an even stronger empathetic connection with Love, as she is a single mother, trying to fight to keep her family safe and together. Love has become adored by many, sparking the debate of “Team Joe'' or “Team Love.”
I understand the empathetic connection the audience has developed with Love. Obviously, the whole murder and insanity aspect of it is unrelatable but that’s what makes for good TV! It’s been confirmed that “You” has been renewed for a Season 4, and I’m so excited to see what comes next.
