Selena Gomez is in her comeback era for fashion. While Selena has been influential throughout
the past two decades for her bold and fun fashion choices, many fashion critics as of lately
noticed she was being styled in a way that didn’t exhibit her lively and youthful spirit. A
collaborative effort with new stylist Erin Walsh opened a new door for Selena to serve looks that
are more authentic to her own personal style and radiant personality.
Walsh showcased Selena’s elegance in a captivating Oscar De La Renta red gown for the 2023 VMAs. Selena showed up to the carpet in a custom look that featured a halter neckline and was made of red floral pieces that were intricately sewn together to form a floral motif. The dress was lined with red cylindrical beads that added both dimension and radiance to the dress. The dress gave the illusion of a string of shimmering floral vines that draped Selena’s body, almost resembling a glittering poinsettia. The dress accentuates her legs and her figure, as it is made with sheer fabric as well, giving it this effect effortlessly. The gown is sexy and the bold color suits Selena very well. The gown also pairs well with who Selena is in regards to her Latin culture because vibrant colors, intricate patterns and flowing silhouettes all characterize Latin fashion. This look was executed very well all around and is one of Selena's best Red Carpet looks.
Walsh also styled Selena for her barbie themed birthday party back in July in a stunning satin
pink Valentino dress, featuring a low back with bow details (as seen in the photo on the right).
The dress was paired with Dior code earrings, a Miss Dior bracelet and a Dior 30 Montaigne
choker. This look is quite similar to the timeless fashion of the Upper East Side in New York,
with a fun twist by adding the vivid pink color. The bright colors accentuate Selena’s dark hair
and eyes and really complement her overall undertones. Walsh posted Selena to her Instagram
posing in the dress, captioning the video “Selena, the Ultimate birthday barbie”.
Selena, anticipating a new single and an upcoming Rare Beauty launch, uploaded new photos for her Instagram and Spotify profile pictures in an alluring sunset orange satin corset by Danielle Guizio. The corset was also paired, in additional pictures, with a vinyl gradient jacket of darker orange shades by the french brand Courrèges. This look was accessorized with large gold hoops and a diamond tennis necklace. Walsh again utilized bright colors to make Selena stand out and
pop in her outfit. The bright color choice is also an effective marketing technique for a profile
picture to be more eye-catching to an audience. It is clear Walsh is keeping in mind Selena’s
career as a business owner (Rare Beauty), as well as her career as a singer and pop star when
styling her. Walsh is combining all of these aspects of Selena’s brand to create one cohesive
stylistic direction that represents all of who Selena is.
Selena also recently debuted her new single “Single Soon” on August 25th and was styled by
Walsh in the music video for the song. She was featured in multiple outfits but the one that stood
out above all was a pink chainmail mini dress from Fannie Schiavoni. The dress featured a low
back and a plunging/mock neckline. She paired the dress with Versace greca hoops earrings, a
pair of pearl necklaces and Versace metallic mules. Walsh went for effortless glamor in the music
video that would highlight Selena’s beauty, growth and independence.
As of most recently, Selena made multiple appearances at Paris fashion week. Coming in hot,
Selena first appeared in France in a poplin white shirt dress by Maison Alaia (left photo),
featuring wide arm sleeves and darts stitching at the waist to give shape to the dress. The dress
was paired with thigh high Casadei black leather boots to add a bombshell effect to the look. The
boots are to die for, having a futuristic and bold proportion that is certainly unique and made
Selena stand out. She also wore yet another classy but fun-spirited outfit with an all-covering
leopard dress by Ronny Kobo (right photo). The dress displayed a tight fight on the upper body,
emphasizing Selenas figure, and then transitioned into a flowy bottom that draped to the floor.
Selena is seen beaming from cheek to cheek, showing her confidence in this dress.
During Selena’s time at Paris fashion week she also sported two suit looks. The first was a
business-casual inspired chic suit by Alexander Wang featuring a combo collared blazer and a
tailored culotte pant with exposed high rise boxers (left photo). The suit was matched with a
GCDS white bag with a bling shoulder strap and blue open-toed pumps to match the blue accent
in the suit. This look put a different spin on the classic suit that made it breathable and perfect for
a young, successful woman on the go. The second outfit was another Alexander Wang suit (right
photo) that consisted of a cropped black blazer, a silver statement belt and black high waisted
trousers.
