When fall comes around every season, so does the show Gilmore Girls. This series premiered in
the 2000s is a comedy-drama starring a mother and her teenage daughter. They live in a cozy
town in Connecticut named Stars Hollow as they face friend, family, and relationship
experiences throughout the 7 seasons. They, however, still have each other along the way. It has
become the show to watch when it hits fall since every season is released during the fall and ends
in the spring. They give off a comforting atmosphere which makes their viewers look forward to
the fall time.
Within the past years, the show has also become a trend and aesthetic for people. People have
posted Gilmore Girls inspired TikToks with the hashtag “Gilmoregirlscore.” They try to
glamorize their lives like Rory Gilmore’s, one of the main characters, and achieve this academic
lifestyle. The show does not just have an influence on a person’s lifestyle, but also their fashion
influence. The majority of the show has the characters in sweaters and scarves, fully dressed for
the chilly, crisp weather. Its fashion reflected the 2000s fall look and is reflected onto today’s
inspiration looks. The two character aesthetics that will be used as examples in this article are
Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. They show a variety of fall outfits for different occasions, such as
going on a date, to your grandmother’s house for a fancy dinner, or simply just walking around
town.
Lorelai Gilmore’s style is very formal casual. Her signature look is composed of leather jackets
or trench coats, a mixture of dark and modern colors, and her signature leather knee high, heel
boots. She can also be seen wearing a comfortable zip up hoodie and graphic tee with sweats, or
low rise jeans that are more laid back. They represent her more rebellious side since they were
pieces of clothing that she couldn’t wear growing up due to her strict parents.
Rory Gilmore’s style is shown to evolve throughout the series. At first, when she is not wearing
her school uniform, she is wearing something casual and comfy. She wears a variety of bright
colored sweaters, along with darker bottoms. After she enrolls in college, her style is not much
different but is more preppy and well put together. As she grows from becoming a teenager to an
adult, her outfits match this sense. She starts to wear more earth tone colors, with more sweaters
and skirts, matched with knee high boots just like her mother in the earlier seasons.
Overall both Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are shown to wear colors that fit the autumn palette.
Their signature looks are usually composed of red, black, white, brown, and dark blue. They
match the weather of the show very well, which is why their style is usually used as inspiration
for viewers and their wanted aesthetic. Especially with such pieces of clothing from the 2000s
making a comeback in today’s fashion trends, it makes Gilmore Girls fall fashion contributors.
